How to stop Speed Backs

So you wanna Stop the Toss/ Sweep/Outside run

This is what I do to limit the success of the Speed back.

1)Always spread your Defensive lineman out by pressing the Left bumper then pressing up on the Left Stick.
2) After you spread them out you then press up on the Left bumper and press up on the Right Stick.
a. This alows you to control the outside gap, and it is easier to stop a speed runner from the outside in.
3)You can also spread and fan you Linenbackers to if you like but it is not neccesary, Rather Always send at least One Lineback, prefferably the Weak side backer to the suspected Side. If you think it is Side specific then just hot route or flip the play. Edit: If you are using Zone coverage, just make sure you dont leave any Wrs uncovered.
4) have your best runn stopper on the strong side at DL and your fastest Linebacker at the weak side for containment. This will shut down 90 % of Speed backs. And these methods have been used in actual game play. At a minimum I deters the play once they see you snuffing it out.
5) Get good at manually chasing down runners from the strong side and weak side with either you Backers or DL, The reason I dont advocate using a safety or corner is because you are anticipating a run and the backers and DL have the best Block shedding which is worth its weight in Gold.

But what if they run up the Middle?

No problem Make sure one if not both of your Interior DL has a high block shedd and at least over 80 strenght, Even the lowevst of low DTs can be almost impossible to block.
